Some of the most special times in any child’s life is when they are approaching their birthday. Not only does it represent entering a new year of growth and development, but it’s also an opportunity for them to celebrate those milestones with their family and friends.
So, if you have a little one who is about to turn a year older and you want to throw them a birthday party in order to commemorate that special occasion, we’ve got five basic child party planning tips for you below:
Get a budget together. Although every parent would love to have a “the sky’s the limit” mentality about their children’s birthday party, the reality is that all of us have a budget that we need to stick to. So, before doing anything else, first sit and think about how much you can afford to spend. Our recommendation? Don’t factor in your credit cards with whatever total that you come up with. Remember, credit cards are loans that have an interest rating. If you pay in cash, you won’t have to worry about any bills coming to your home months after the party is over.
Choose a venue. The next thing that we recommend you do is sit down and think of a venue where you’d like the hold the party. Although your home is more than appropriate for very young children (or a small amount of guests), if you’d like your child’s entire class to come, you might need a bigger spot. IN that case, you’ll want to book a venue as soon as possible so that you can get the best possible rate.
Think of a theme. After you know where you want the party to be, then consider the type of theme that you want it to have. Honestly, unless you are planning a surprise birthday party, we think that you should consult with your child on this part. You want it to be a theme that they will be truly excited about and sometimes that means that they will have a different set of ideas than you do.
Decide on the entertainment. Once you’ve settled on a theme and you’ve gone to a place like The Train Quest to get some of the supplies that you need, the next step in the birthday party planning process is to decide on the kind of entertainment that you want to be featured at the party. Whether it’s a clown or a magician or something else, one thing that’s important to remember is it’s hard to keep a child under the age of 5’s attention if something is going on for more than 45 minutes or so. Therefore, whatever it is that you choose, try and keep it under an hour.
Get out your invitations. The last thing that you are going to need to do is get your invitations together. Although you can send out paper invitations, it’s just as fitting to send out an Evite. In fact, you might prefer it so that parents can RSVP as soon as possible so that you can get the appropriate head count.
